Ways to Support an Artist
There is no doubt that being an artist is a challenging way to make a living. I didn’t choose to be an artist for the money – I chose to be an artist because of the innate desire to create. While I do believe it is possible to have an income from one’s creative endeavors, it takes more than money to support an artist (but money is very helpful since the electric company is still not accepting original art as payment).
Here are some ways you can support an artist – ranging from purchasing their work to letting them know you like their style. I’ve included links to my shops/social media should you choose to support my creative efforts – every like, follow, and purchase is greatly appreciated!
Buy Original Art
This is the most obvious, and not everyone can afford an original piece depending on the type of art. Most of my originals are digital, but occasionally I paint or craft a one of a kind piece.

Buy Prints & Products
Often a more affordable way to have a piece of art. Some artists create limited edition prints. Sizes vary from postcard size to large print or poster size. Some artists, myself included, put their art on notecards or other products.
I sell greeting cards, stickers, and washi tape here on my website. In my Etsy shop, Cozy Chateau, I sell wallpaper and home goods. I also have a shop on Spoonflower (fabric, wallpaper, and home goods) and Redbubble (various products from phone cases to socks to apparel).

Attend Their Class/Workshop
If an artist offers classes or workshops and you are interested in the topic – take the class! If you know someone who would enjoy the class, pass the information along to them as well.

Like and Comment on Social Media
Social media is… an effort. There’s a lot of anxiety about putting your work out there – will people like it? Will someone steal it? Do people even see it? Likes and comments help feed the algorithm so the social media platform shows the post to more people.
I’m not suggesting you like everything that’s posted (that can hurt more than help), but taking the time to tap the “like” or “heart” icon when you truly like something is helpful. Better still, leaving a comment not only helps the algorithm, but it provides encouragement and feedback for the artist. Comments like “I love the colors you used”. or “this would look great in my daughter’s room” or “where can I get a print of that?”

The artist might blog or have interesting information about their process. Hopefully, they also have links to where you can purchase their art and products, classes and workshops they teach, and other ways you can support them (like maybe they wrote a book).
