Welcome to the Stars in My Garden Sew-Along! I’m thrilled to introduce this vibrant and intricate quilt design that we’ll be stitching together over the coming weeks. Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or joining your first sew-along, this project is an opportunity to grow your skills, piece by piece, while creating a stunning quilt you’ll treasure forever.
The quilt finishes at 56″ x 72″ – before adding borders, perfect for showcasing as a bed topper or statement piece in any room.
Supplies You'll Need
Stars in My Garden is bursting with beauty, combining traditional quilt blocks with a playful mix of colors. The design features star blocks, set amongst vibrant green accents and charming floral-inspired blocks. To bring this quilt to life, you’ll need 18 fabrics; I recommend 1/2 yard each, so you can play with bold contrasts and soft hues.
Fabric requirements
Half a yard (1/2 yard) each of the following:
- 3 whites
- 2 light pinks
- 3 medium pinks
- 2 dark pinks
- 2 light greens
- 2 medium/dark greens
- 2 light blues
- 2 medium/dark blues
If you prefer, you can swap the pinks for purples, yellows, or any other color you love—just ensure you have a similar range of light, medium, and dark tones. Kits in the pink/blue/green colorway will be available at Vintage Pink & Green after January 7th.
You’ll also need your basic quilting supplies: scissors, rotary cutter, rulers, marking pen/pencil, etc. The only “specialty” supplies I use are a bias square ruler (for trimming half-square triangle units) and a “quick quarter” tool for marking the sewing lines of the half-square triangle units. I like using my sand paper board when marking as it keeps the fabric from stretching while I mark it. The “specialty” tools are all optional.
Oh – and I do love to use design boards when organizing each block and a rotating cutting mat when trimming. Again – these are optional!
The Block Guide
Download the block guide PDF. This guide details cutting instructions and what pieces are used for each block. Instructions for making each block are released weekly here on my website along with a YouTube video on my YouTube channel.

Cutting the Fabric
The block guide details cutting instructions and what pieces are used for each block. Instructions for making each block are released weekly here on my website along with a YouTube video on my YouTube channel.
I started cutting one fabric at a time and then organizing the pieces by block number. This makes it so easy to grab the appropriate block each week and get right to sewing.
Helpful Tip: After cutting your fabrics, organize them into baggies labeled by block number. This way, you’ll be ready to sew without any confusion. The downloadable guide includes a chart to help you keep track of which pieces go into each block as well as a sheet of block numbers.
Most weeks you’ll make either four or eight of a block. The first week we’ll be making a single Sawtooth Star block. One of the best things about this quilt-along is that you can sew at your own pace. Whether you follow along weekly or save the tutorials for a future quilting retreat, the lessons will remain available indefinitely.
