Sea Magic quilt in blues and white featuring fabrics from Riley Blake's Ocean Oasis collection

I’m so excited to finally share Sea Magic—a quilt I designed using the beautiful Ocean Oasis fabric line from Riley Blake Designs. From the moment I saw the pillow panel in this collection, I knew I had to build a quilt around it.

The finished quilt looks complex, but it’s made from just two types of blocks: a “broken sash” unit and a classic economy block (square in a square). Together, they create a design that draws your eye across the quilt and really lets the artwork on those pillow panels shine.

 Let’s Talk About the Design

This is a throw-sized quilt—about 52″ x 68″—and it comes together faster than you’d think. The panel squares do a lot of the visual work, so you don’t need to piece anything fussy. The “broken sash” block gives the illusion of a complicated layout, and the economy blocks add structure and symmetry. It’s a great project if you want to make something striking without spending weeks cutting and sewing tiny pieces.

Confident Beginner-Friendly

If you’ve made a few quilts and want to level up your piecing, this pattern is perfect. It’s approachable, and the final result looks advanced—great for gifting, displaying, or just cozying up under something gorgeous.

Get the Kit

The Sea Magic quilt kit is available exclusively through Vintage Pink & Green. The kit includes all the fabric you need for the quilt top and binding, plus a printed pattern. (You’ll just need to grab backing fabric separately.) Of course I have a video on YouTube to help walk you through the construction of the quilt!
