A Bold and Colorful Strip Quilt You’ll Love Making

This quilt started with a stack of beautiful fabrics from the Ruby + Bee Solids and Dot to Dot collections by Windham Fabrics. The moment I saw them, they practically begged to be turned into something fun, bold, and vibrant. And from there, Bright Stripes was born.
A Strip Quilt with a Twist
The construction is simple: sew three fabric strips together, cut triangles using a 45° angle (no fancy ruler needed!), and pair each with a triangle from a solid fabric square. Each unit becomes a 9″ block full of contrast and color. Make 48 blocks and you’ll have a stunning quilt layout that’s 6 across and 8 down.
Want to know the best part? No two quilts will look the same. While I kept my strip sets within the same color families, you’re encouraged to mix and match however you like. This is a pattern that invites creative freedom, even if you’re newer to quilting.
Tools You Don’t Need
While a specialty triangle ruler is nice, it’s not required. I show you how to use a regular quilting ruler with a 45° marking to make your triangle cuts clean and easy. (Trust me, it’s more forgiving than you think!)
A Few Tips Before You Start:
You’ll create 12 sets of 3-strip combinations, but you can get by with 11 sets and just cut a few extra triangles.
Cut your solid squares slightly larger (I used 10″) so you have room to trim after sewing.
Finished blocks trim to 9″ unfinished, and go together beautifully once you start playing on the design wall.
