You're the Cherry on Top
I’m so happy that we’ve found each other! Thanks for joining me on my creative journey. I aspire to provide inspiration and encouragement for you journey, as well as share tips and techniques I learn along the way.
Below I’ve posted a time-lapse video of how I created the lettering for my printable. I started in Procreate on the iPad and then brought it into Adobe Illustrator. After doing an image trace to vectorize the lettering, I “fixed” the outlines, colored in the letters, and arranged the saying within the little cherries frame I’d made earlier.
When doing hand-lettering I often make use of Ian Barnard’s Grid Builder to aid in laying out the design. Guides make designing so much easier!
Lettering takes practice. I’ve been playing with 2 dimensional letters since I could write. One of my fondest memories is sitting with my dad as a young child while he showed me how to transform “stick letters” into two and three dimensional letter-forms. I was hooked.
Lettering like this isn’t something I do all the time and I find laying out quotes to sometimes be challenging. Tracing over my work several times, making small changes and refining, is the best way to improve. That’s why I love drawing on my iPad. In Procreate I can create layers of sketches plus I can move around the elements easily.
