Here are a few of my favorite things...
Color:
Rosy Pink
I’ve always liked pink. My bedroom carpet as a child was pink. My signature color is pink. I don’t necessarily favor one particular shade of pink, and prefer to utilize a whole range of pinks in my work and my wardrobe.
Font:
Do I have to pick only one?!
This changes periodically. I like fonts that have a little character to them. I used Fields Display and Helvetica Neue for my new site logo. Like many artists and designers, I collect way too many fonts. And I also create my own fonts, which is what I did for my SKM Designs logo.
Design Era:
Arts & Crafts through Art Deco
Bold curves and giant geometry with a bit of gilded flare? Yes please! I’m also a huge fan of William Morris, who is the godfather of the Arts & Crafts Movement. And Art Nouveau, which sort of bridged these two design eras. Basically any era with the word “art” in it.
Book Genre: Cozy Mysteries
I couldn’t pick a single book I love the most, so I went with genre. It started with Nancy Drew and Agatha Christie. Now I consume about a couple dozen a year. I like cozy mysteries (which are led by amateur sleuths and usually don’t have much blood and gore) so much that I wrote one. I self-published Clear the Heir in 2022 and plan to write more in the series.
Places to Visit: Ireland and Disney World
I’d move to Ireland in a heartbeat. I probably wouldn’t move to Disney World, although it may be fun to work there for a bit. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Ireland several times and look forward to returning again. Same for Disney World.
Some basic info...
Location:
I live in a little rural town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I’m between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It’s quiet and friendly.
Family:
Husband, two grown-ish kids (daughter and son), dog (rescue mutt), and my son’s kitten.
Astrological Sign:
Pisces. I was almost born on leap day. While I don’t really follow horoscopes and such, I do mostly fit the characteristics of my sign: gracious and emotionally aware with a proclivity towards creativity and imagination, who will go to great lengths to ensure the happiness of those around them.
My Superpower:
Creativity. I want to be an artist when I grow up. That’s what I wrote when I was younger and it came true! You can read about my deep-rooted need to create on my blog.
Want to improve your drawing skills or learn to use Adobe Illustrator more efficiently?
I license my surface patterns and illustrations.
Every two weeks (ish) I send out a newsletter with a bit of inspiration, a quick tutorial, or highlighting new products.
